Do children still get destroyed at Armageddon?
by Anony Mous ini know back in the day, that was taught, that if the parents were going to be destroyed, so would the children.
i just can't easily find reference to anything.
this thinking has been used to justify some egregious behavior towards children and their parents such as exclusion of children from jw family - why worry, the end is near, all will work itself out then - the end didn't come though.

The abuse of JW org
by wozza inawhile ago i said on here i would like to show how wrong the jehovahs witness organisation is , in that they will not accept the testimony of a victim of sexual crime where the victim has no other witnesses to the crime.
i faced this with helping my ex wife for about 15 years in exposing her father , an elder, to the jw org.
his raping of her over years and they believed him.. so therefore the perpetrator knowing of the organisations stance can easily deny and therefore be free to pretend to serve as an innocent jw still mixing with the congregation ,and also i have witnessed an accused perpetrator of child molestation witnessing at my next door neighbors house in field service with a child of another family even though the elders knew of the accusations against him.

@Kerry: we were talking about children but since you brought it up - 80% of contested family court cases include the allegation of abuse through a request for protection on the side of the female, only 5% of those prove to be substantiated sufficiently that it is further investigated.
These allegations are ‘standard language’ as they predispose the court towards the female when it comes to custody - basically, they are often used to exclude the father for months or years while the case is ongoing, and then the best interest of the child is often to maintain the status quo because it has been too long (9-24 months is typical) and the relationship is broken despite the fact that all this was legal footwork.
I agree with your statement about the EU becoming even more of a hellhole third world country because of mass immigration.
But third wave feminism and easy birth control has caused a lot of the problems women face today. If you accuse someone over a bad one night stand, then all other accusations become less believable as well. The problem starts with the choice to have serial one night stands with random strangers, it is not empowerment, you are objectifying yourself and men.

The Greeks had a word for it, but the Watchtower didn't
by Nathan Natas ini recall as though it was only 60 years ago, sitting in the kingdom hall on those horrible chairs, learning of the four forms of love: agape, philia, storge and eros.. the watchtower never mentioned pragma.. pragma: this is a committed, compassionate love that often grows as two partners continue to cherish and care for each other.
this type of love is associated with being together for a long time.
in some cases, the passion of eros can grow into pragma over time, this forging a lasting bond.. i think i know why; the watchtower isn't into committed, compassionate, cherishing and caring, are they?.

@blondie: In the time of the Internet, the WTBTS has been frequently corrected and ridiculed for their archaic interpretation of both Hebrew and Greek text. A lot of what the modern WTBTS uses for 'research' is still the work from Franz-and-co in the 1950s-1970s when they were honestly busy with 'biblical research' and collected source material into large libraries, but time moves on, new things are discovered and they keep going back to the same dated topics and sources, many of which have been corrected.
Now all those databases are searchable with a few keystrokes and you can't just reference a single article or scientific journal, you are mandated to reference dozens, often contradictory and distill something useful out of them.
It is also a gateway for people 'doing their own research' into topics that are deeply religious and where the WTBTS is simply insufficient in their explanations.

The elders still don't report unless there is a 2-witness rule satisfied, from what I know that is still the case. If there is only 1 witness, they have to report to the branch and await instructions, which are nearly always to do nothing unless legal requirements which then must be done through an anonymous report that does not mention the JWs (basically the elder must report as a private citizen).
In many cases the police can find multiple witnesses, despite the elders not having 2 witnesses that voluntarily and at the same time come forward about the same event (which is the standard for the 2-witness rule).
I do believe the two-witness rule is to blame for the above, the elders should be mandatory reporters like every single other organization has learned in the past few decades, Catholic Church, Scouts, private and public healthcare workers, childcare, most Judeo-Christian denomination etc, all of them are now mandatory reporting even where jurisdictional it is not required - the only ones that are largely consistent in not reporting are Muslims, JWs, Mormons and various other sects or cults.

@Touchofgrey: With all the interesting living situations these days, split households, divorced, adopted (knowingly or unknowningly) and the historical "you are never 100% sure who the father is" - who are "your children".
I'm just kind of wondering what the situation would be hypothetically if you are adopted but your biological parents are "saved", or if your adopted parents are saved but not your biological parents - that's all kinds of messed up regardless of how you cut it. Hi, I'm your child now, my parents are dead, or your child is dead now because their parents were destroyed.
In the end everybody is someone's child and not all those people are or were or could've been JWs, so does that mean everybody will be destroyed anyway?

How did JWs arrive at a clearer understanding of what the Bible teaches than other Christian denominations?
by slimboyfat infor jws who believe that jehovah had a hand in reviving the truth in the nineteenth century this is enough explanation for how jws managed to achieve a closer approximation to early christian beliefs and practices than other groups.
but is there an explanation for this phenomenon that doesn’t rely on supernatural intervention?
new testament scholar james dunn explains the difficulty of interpreting the biblical texts in this way:.

I have a suspicion Ehrman is a JW. He’s definitely friendly towards and copies a lot of the whackadoodle ideas resulting from the Miller-Smith feud of the 19th century, only ceding where he would totally blow his credibility.

@Stephane: The elders aren't capable, either physically, legally or competently to collect the necessary evidence. You can often collect sufficient evidence from a single witness testimony to convict in criminal court (beyond a reasonable doubt), the problem is that they do not give the opportunity to victims, parents and others for a competent investigator to do this. Do you really want two window washers to handle your DNA evidence or do a rape kit? If you think it is traumatic now dealing with a JC, imagine the elders swabbing some young girl for evidence.

How would that work if the parents are divorced and one remains a JW but does not have knowledge/custody of the child - would a kid suddenly be popped into the arms of another parent. How about the grandparents or other family, could they suddenly have their household grown by a half dozen kids? What about the emotional damage that comes with that?
I know again, back in the day, it was explained to me that Jehovah would simply erase the memory of the "bad things", but that seems even more crazy, especially given the footprint children and people leave behind. Why would you not rebel in the 1000 years of purification, would you want to live knowing your life was a lie? Everyone else has 2 parents, but you have just 1 or none at all, logically speaking, you would have to find out that there were 'some' that were erased, who were they, what were they like, what did they do wrong. Or perhaps you can't think those thoughts and won't have free will to ask questions. Paradise seems closer to George Orwell's 1984.
These things are so messed up if you think about them.

Changing the Date of the Memorial?
by KalebOutWest ini noticed in the latest memorial invitation, the dates for the observance are odd--well far more odd than usual.. what i mean is that forever as i can remember, jehovah's witnesses use to advertise really big that this was nisan 14. they don't tend to do this anymore.. and being jewish, their dates now tend to align with passover, or at least with the second seder night of passover.. 2025: saturday, april 12 (nisan 15).
2026: thursday, april 2 (nisan 15/16).
2027: monday, march 22 (nisan 15/16).

@Duran: As previously pointed out: The day is close (off by one) this year, but on other years it has diverged as much as 10 days (the accumulated error on the lunar cycle could be up to 11 days per year I believe).
Nisan 14 will have ended on the night of Saturday, April 12, 2025, the memorial is supposed to take place at the beginning of that day? Saturday April 12 after sundown is Nisan 15.

They’re basically using the Gregorian calendar of when the equinox happens and then adjusting that for the lunar cycle.
It is ‘a’ calendar that nobody uses because it is very complex, not impossible to calculate because it is still astronomical, but not something that is easily understood as the other systems that are purely lunar cycle or solar.
The error shifts the day around in the season so the day will appear to jump around, very bad for an agricultural society that needs to plan crops around holidays.
